Primary and noncontributory endorsement in admitted P&C products

Coverage intent

Primary and noncontributory wording makes one policy respond before another party’s insurance and prevents contribution from that other insurance in specified circumstances.

Coverage impact

This language is often required by contract. The value depends on whether the wording is automatic, tied to additional insured status, or limited to written agreements.
